5 Images I find objectionable

This image looks like a failed Robert Mapplethorpe copy. In short it creeps me out but doesn't make me think.

This image to me is just un'real'istic. It seems like a poor quality copy of golden age of fashion photography picture. It's in the context of ideal body image so it says thing (unintended or not) about how woman should look.

Another unrealistic picture, I understand it's a joke but even so it's placing unrealistic expectations on the male physic.

What's going on with that unnamed fruit in her hand? anti-aging = plastic soft fruit??? hmmmm not sure I want to live in that future.

Okay, we want a shot of a naked lady to advertise our new magic shampoo. but we don't want her to have any genitalia. Photoshop in some extra thigh. Why not shoot it properly in the first place?

Max Dupain's architectural work is a strong if not visible influence on the way I look at architecture. I like the tones and the symmetry of the shot


Joni Sternbech's "Surfers" series was the body of work that made me interested in alternative photography especially the tintype process, his work like Chuck Close's has a hyper real feel to it.



Henri Cartier-Bresson, This work may not be the style that I shoot in but it and works like it have influenced my method... even in Architectural photography there still is the "decisive moment"


A self portrait of Dali, he shows us the Dale that he has always chosen to show us. Self portraits have that power, they are never as honest as the seem and are more often than not a portrait of who we want to be or are at the moment of taking the photo


Chuck Close, pushing the boundaries of reality. His work again possesses the hyper real feel, this is due in part to the processes he uses and in part to his ability to capture a moment (even if that moment is staged)

It includes step-by-step instructions and information of alternative processes. It deals with everything from chemical suppliers to trouble shooting the processes.

Chuck Close is an artist who deals in (though not exclusively) the photographic medium; He is noted for use of alternative processes, namely the Tintype process.

Asides from offering a quick overview of the processes he used he is also a great source of inspiration.


Book: The Keepers of Light

In this book, Crawford details forgotten and alternative photographic processes.

The goal of the book is to make available photographic processes that are in danger of becoming extinct and to assist the photographer to connect or reconnect with the essence of image making. It can be seen as the first step into using alternative photographic processes.

Sternbach is a photographer who works with alternative processes. He uses the wet plate tintype process to produce portraits and landscapes. The website serves and a portfolio and also includes his artists statement for the individual works / series.

This Book is a step-by-step darkroom guide to using old and alternative photographic processes. It details what items and chemicals are needed to use specific processes and how to use them.
